Summer School 2024

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHER (Gen ED.)

 

The Sunnyvale School District and Stanford University are seeking cooperating teachers and classroom teachers for a summer program for elementary school students.  This is an outstanding opportunity for teachers willing to develop their own professional practice and give back to the profession by supporting the Stanford Teacher Education Program (STEP) to grow a new generation of teachers.  Prospective teachers should have the ability to motivate students and help them develop confidence and positive habits of mind. There is a possibility that we will have both a Stanford site where teachers are partnered with Stanford student teachers, and a non-Stanford site where you will not be partnered with Stanford student teachers.

 

Summer program components:

  • Use a variety of instructional strategies, including group work and differentiated strategies for multilingual students
  • Thematic units - find creative ways to thematically tie content areas together
  • Mentor Stanford student teachers (typically 1-2 in a classroom if you’re at a Stanford site)

 

Days and Hours:  

Planning/PD Days before the 23-24 school year ends: 3 days (Tentative dates 5/6, 5/20, 6/3 - all meetings are 4-5:30 virtual)

Class Setup Days: Stanford site has 3 days, Non-stanford site has 2 days (Tentative dates: 6/25 (both Stanford/non-Stanford site), 6/26 (both Stanford/non-Stanford site)

Student school days: 19 days: 6/27-7/25 (no school or work July 4 and 5). 

Student hours: Monday-Friday 8:30-12:30.

Teacher hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 -1:00, except for extended hours 1 or 2 (2 for Stanford site) days per week to include collaborative planning, staff meetings and professional development (1-2pm).

Program Focus (Incoming Grades TK-5 - grades are tentative):
The summer program will include a math and ELA block, with an integrated theme of your choosing. We will focus on building student confidence and excitement about learning.

 

Process for Application:

  1. Express interest through Talent Ed by 4:00 p.m. on Jan 13, 2024, including current resume and cover letter 
  2. Meet with Sunnyvale (and Stanford program) administrators for interview

 

Salary:

 $6,000 (non-Stanford site)

 $6,000 + 400 (Stanford-provided stipend if at Stanford summer site)

All sites 

  • 19 teaching days 
  • 3 planning meetings via Zoom 
  • 2 class setup days- 2 mornings (8-12) 
  • 1 extended day a week for staff meeting Tues 

Stanford site (above + below)

  • +1 Stanford orientation day @Stanford (11am-4pm)
  • +1 extended day a week for staff meetings on Thurs 
  • + Daily afterschool check ins with Stanford teacher candidate(s)
