TITLE: On Call Speech and Language Therapist

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Possess a valid California credential for providing Speech and Language Therapy.
- Master's Degree in Speech and Language is desirable.
- Experience as a Speech and Language Therapist is desirable.
- Classroom teaching experience in regular and special education is desirable.
- Bilingual ability is desirable.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: The Director of Special Education and Pupil Personnel
JOB GOAL: To provide speech and language service to identified students as outlined by their Individual Education Program.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducting screening and testing of students in order to determine appropriate placement in special education.
- Prepares written reports of assessment results.
- Participate in the development of the Individualized Education Program for students placed in the special education program.
- Identifies students for special education program as a member of a team which then places students when appropriate.
- Develops Individualized Education Program for identified speech students.
- Consults with teacher on follow-through activities for identified students.
- Observe students in order to identify children who may need speech and language assessment.
- Provides information to the Individualized Education Program Team in the development of l.E.P.'s.
- Provides consultation to regular classroom teachers, and special day class teachers that have students in the speech and language program.
- Modifies a child's speech and language program as indicated by periodic evaluation.
- Cooperates with other staff members involved in implementing a child's I.E.P. including the Resource Specialist, Special Day Class Teacher, or Regular Classroom Teacher.
- Maintains up-to-date records of pupil progress.
- Confers with parents regarding their child's progress.
- Participates in staff development programs.
- Works with the Resource Specialist in insuring the procedures for placement of children have been followed, particularly as it relates to parental consent and provision of information regarding parent rights.
- If assigned as an itinerant specialist, plans a schedule in cooperation with district and school administrators.
- Provides information to the Individualized Education Program Team regarding progress of a pupil when an annual or tri-annual review is being conducted.
- Provides in service training regarding speech and language to staff, parents, and community.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and terms of employment are described in the Agreement between the Sunnyvale School District and the Sunnyvale Education Association.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Agreement between the Sunnyvale School District and the Sunnyvale Education Association. |
